I must say that this was a terrific interview. Mr. Whitener is a southerner, which was interesting. He has a very common man appearance. But is very serious about the work at hand at Western Electric. He has been at this for over 30 years now. He made me think of the late Dave Thomas who founded Wendy’s a few years after he had Cashed in his stock in KFC. From what he is related, it seems like the 300B tube of today will be even better than the one of yesteryear. And the planned 12AX7 for the guitar market will open up even greater opportunities for them. They eventually need to make all the popular small signals and some rectumfiers as well, 6L6, 6V6.

Going from a 300B to a 12AX7 is like jumping 2 generations of tube technology. If/when they are available it will be interesting to see if the new tubes are as well regarded as the 300B, and as (relatively) expensive.

How about 396a production? Does WE make these currently or is everything NOS? I have one & the box looks new, similar to the inner boxes the 300B come in except for size.
