Hi Everyone,

Up for sale is my Decware SE84UFO, built in April 2021. The unit is 220/240 volts and comes with the Level 2 Anniversary Beeswax/Copper Bypass mods and upgraded Miflex caps.

The amp has gotten relatively light use since I received it and it is in pristine, like new, condition. It is working perfectly and I never had any problems (humming/blown fuse, etc.) with it. I’m guessing it has about 200 total hours on it.

Buying a new similarly configured SE84UFO amp today and shipping it to France + customs duties would cost about €1800 at today's exchange rates. This calculation is based on having paid $117 for shipping plus a whopping €268 in customs duties in 2021.

My selling price is €1600 plus the cost of shipping. This price includes an extra pair of 6P15P-EV tubes ($44) and an extra single 6N1P tune (+$19). So, you get a like new amp with a couple of extra tubes at about a 10% discount, without having to wait a year or two for delivery of a new amp.

Ideally, I would like to sell the amp to someone in France (where I live), but I should be able to ship it anywhere in Europe. I have all the original packing material so it will be well protected in transit.

I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have. Photos below.

Hi Carlsbad,

I could probably ship the amp to the US, but I honestly don't think it's worth it for you. You would be paying more for a used amp than a new amp. Not a good deal.

The price I am selling the amp for takes into account the high shipping costs and customs duties anyone importing the amp into Europe would have to pay. The amp is already here in Europe, so shipping costs are considerably lower and no customs duties.

There's no one in Europe who wants to be the owner of this wonderful Decware amp? Strange, I remember looking at the waiting list about a year ago and seeing quite a number of orders from European countries. We’ll see!

I didn’t explain why I’m selling the amp; maybe potential buyers are interested in the backstory. I had a Decware SE84cex about 15 years ago. I absolutely loved it, but had to sell it. I waited 13 years to own another Decware amp, and in April 2021 (after waiting impatiently for 12 months!), I received a Se84UFO with the anniversary copper bypass mods. The new Se84UFO amp is great, but I think my listening preferences have changed.

I spoke with Steve about what I was after and he recommended that I try some different tube combinations to get closer to the sound I’m looking for today. Instead of investing in exotic NOS tubes, I decided to take another path and to keep the Musical Paradise MP-301 MKIII EL-34 amp I have, which while not perfect, gives me the more colored, tubey sound I’m after. Although my tastes have changed, I’m sure the sound of the Se84UFO with the anniversary copper bypass mods would make a lot of people extremely happy (just read all the spectacular reviews!).

If nobody is interested in buying the amp, I guess I'll hold onto this gem and do some more tube rolling to bring it closer to my tastes :)

I would have actually be interested in this amp to replace my SE34I.2+ in my bedroom, but recently I have had a sour experience with the Turkish Customs Authority (I live in Istanbul), so I do not want to take the risk.

However, next time I am in France (which might be actually this summer), I will check with you if the unit is still up for sale.

Hi Alper,

Yeah, you never know with customs, sometimes you get really bad surprises. That’s one reason why buying a used Decware amp, which is already on the European territory, might be preferable for potential buyers; you can avoid playing customs roulette!

If and when I sell the amp, I’ll communicate that it is no longer for sale on the Decware forums. If it’s still available when you visit France, and you’re still interested in buying it, just let me know!

C'est bien dommage que tu t'en sépares, j'espère que tu ne le regretteras pas. Dans quel système l'utilises tu et qui te fais vouloir cette vente ?

Oui effectivement, l'ampli est à vendre sur leboncoin; j'ai mis l'annonce en ligne il y a quelques semaines. J'ai deux personnes qui sont intéressées, mais il n'est pas encore parti.

J'ai attendu 13 ans avant de remplacer le SE84cex que j'étais obligé de vendre à l'époque. Il me semble que mes goûts ont évolué. Le SE84UFO, qui est à présent à vendre, ne correspond plus à mes préférences sonores.

Associé avec des Caintuck Audio Lii15 baffles (fait maison), un Sony HAP-Z1ES (restitution très musicale) et des câbles Duelund tin plate copper, je trouve que le son du Decware n'est pas assez rond, assez "charnu", assez romantique.

Depuis 3 ans, j'ai un Musical Paradise MP-301 MKIII qui me plaît beaucoup. Je le trouve plus riche et ample dans les médium que le Decware avec plus d'impact et du punch. Certes, le Decware est plus transparent, plus raffiné et peut-être un poil plus détaillé, mais tout est une question de goût dans ce hobby.

En ce qui concerne les regrets, c'est difficile de savoir en avance ... lol ... Je suis à la recherche d'un ampli qui a la même signature sonore du Musical Paradise avec un peu plus de transparence et précision. On verra !
