The passing of a legend. R.I.P.

It’ll be a bunch of his stuff playing this evening.

I've been trying to get my hands on a good vinyl copy of his "Truth" album. My favorite with him and Rod Stewart. Sad to hear.

A master of his instrument. Nobody can play like that.

the master of masters ! saw him live only once in 1980 w/ Simon Phillips on drums and I was thinking about that show for a long long time afterwards.

I saw him on that 1980 tour as well, for the There & Back album. That was memorable. Saw him again in LA in 1989 with his Guitar Shop line up. And finally in 2018 at Jazz a Vienne.  Nobody sounded like him.

@Pineman

Yes There and Back Tour ! and my first exposure to Larsen-Feiten Band who opened up the show.

and totally forgot about seeing that tour with SRV in 1989 but it was a forgettable show as it was at Oakland Auditorium and it was so LOUD and echo riddled that I couldnt even make out what they were playing even being familiar with the guitar shop material . Only reason I didnt bail on show early as I wanted to see JB and SRV jam together but ended up getting a hack job ( not very good ) Carlos Santana jam instead. I like Santana but that jam I remember being a mess,

I recall Beck and SRV had a Fender CD at instruments stores, maybe a freebie if you bought Fender gear...all I remember now is they wouldn't give me one.

I wasn't a big Jeff Beck fan, by his own admission he liked chaos and that's usually what I heard in between amazing playing. I appreciated his talent and those songs where he blew me away. Also appreciate him being an artist and pursuing HIS art.

Few years back a good friend of mine couldn't believe Bob "The Bear" Hite (Canned Heat) was dead. From that point forward I always made a point to call or text him when someone passed. That friend passed last summer and still to this day when I hear of a famous death I want to text him, then a second later it all hits me again that he's gone and not there to get the text.
