Title: Sounds from a black hole
Post by Dana on 08/24/22 at 18:11:42

The black hole is at the center of the Perseus cluster of galaxies, and the acoustic waves coming from it have been transposed up 57 and 58 octaves so they're audible to human hearing.

As a science teacher, I tell my students the wonders of space are boundless!

Vibrations per second? Nope, vibrations per ten million years.

Difficult to conceive.

I've heard aural renditions of the entire solar system and even a "sped up" sound the sun makes, but even that was creepy.
Slowing X-rays down to audio frequencies must take some serious work.
Noticed they did not publish a distortion spec.
;D

The incredible vastness of the universe is just so incomprehensible. At least billions of stars in our galaxy, at least billions of galaxies. . . possibly multiple universes. Makes all mankind and especially troublesome persons and concerns seem so so insignificant. That's probably a good thing overall. And wow. . . what a mind-boggling situation we find ourselves in.
