Thanks Geno. I suppose you could call it that. Unofficially anyway. I have to do a better job of watching out for the thin skinned, cry room candidates.

Welcome back comrade! You will receive your MKV a month or so before me. I'm sure your posts about it will whet my anticipation.

comrade, auuuughhh! (I know what you did there, LOL)

Thank you Nigel. When we ordered our MK 5’s, that was waaaaau back in the day when Steve first announced all MK 4 orders in the queue at the time would be MK 5 builds. When I initially put my order in, it was for the MK 4.

What are you going to do with your existing MK 4?

I love my MKIV! I'm going to setup a second system.

Nigel,

Do you have a ZBIT? Or are you running XLR's until your preamp then using the single end RCA's out into you ZR2? Or just using RCA's into the ZR2 from your DAC then RCA's into your preamp?

Thanks Joseph

Guess I'm stuck on buying a balanced Dac and using the single end RCA outputs. Want to get the most Dac I can within my budget. Just unclear on the whole R to R single ended non balanced side of the system.

Joseph, I have a ZBIT. I’m not currently using it.

Stuck in what way on buying a balanced DAC and using it single ended?

I have a R2R DAC and I run it single ended all the way to the amp. I’m keeping the ZBIT so I can try it again some time when I change my system.

2 reasons to use balanced XLR. 1. Long runs of wire. 2. More gain.

Many products have features and abilities that many people don’t use or have a use for. Just because it has a feature doesn’t mean it needs to be used to get the most out of it.

My DAC has HDMI(I2S) inputs, and other inputs. I’m not using and have no plans to use it in the future. I still paid for them.

Often people discuss what balanced XLR does well. They are ignorant or conveniently leave out the issues with balanced XLR.

Nigel,

Thanks, I understand what your saying...pretty much what I was thinking. Working on a budget thankfully haven't blown it yet.

Hi HK

In my case had the funeral service for my Dad yesterday and a lovely day with family. I think things may return to normal for me soon. I'll send you a PM. Glad to see you back.

Lon, I apologize for missing the news about your dad. Peace and blessings to you and your family. Do you still have your mom around?

Title: Re: back again
Post by Lon on 06/12/22 at 22:39:51

Thank you sir. No, my Mom passed in 2014, after about 8 years suffering from vascular dementia. Luckily I was able to care for her her final years, at home. My Dad said he had one wish--to keep his faculties, and he did, right up to the end, his strong intellect and his warm heart firing on all cylinders. The service went beautifully, and was a great tribute to him. I felt that way as it occurred, and even more so after rewatching it online this afternoon.
