What have you found sounds best, and your source for purchase?  Thanks.

No replies so I'll give you my 2c.  I have only had Rachel a couple of weeks and I've tried quite a few tubes and found the amp to be less influeced my input tubes than other amps I've had.  However, that may just be because there is not much variety available in input tubes.  Output tubes make a much bigger difference.  I have not tried a 6N2P yet.  Looking at ebay they are selling for as little as $3 each.  Looks like they are all Russian military surplus and probably don't vary much in quality.  I believe I'v seen posts, however, when Steve states that they are all premium tubes at bargain prices.  Once I settle on an output tube, I'll then go through the various input tubes again to see which one I prefer.   --Jerry

What output tubes are you trying out?

I just put in 6N23Ps that I bought from Decware after I bought my Rachael back in 2014.  These tubes replaced a pair of NOS Amperex 6922s that I've had in the amp for about a couple of months.

I'm using RCA 807s as output tubes, and a Sylvania 5U4GB rectifier.

What I first noticed was an extended midrange as well as a suitable volume bump.  I really like the sound I'm getting with these and really fill up my room.  I'm quite happy now with the sound I'm getting from my system.

Thank you for that.  I plan on using RCA 807s as well.  I'm still a few months away until receipt.....

I should correct myself, I put in 6NP2  preamp tubes...not the NP23.

I love the RCA 807s - I'm pairing with some NOS Russian 6N1Ps, and I'm delighted. With that said, I find I swap the output tubes about every month of so (currently running EL34s, and about to roll back in some 7027a's) as the change really pulls me back into the sound.

G-d I love the flexibility of this amp.

I'm also partial to the RCA 807s. I've settled on Russian surplus 6N2Ps for the inputs. With the Rachael I found that the rectifier makes more of a difference in tailoring the sound. I run a NOS RCA 5U4G most of the time.

Like drford, I also find that rolling the output tubes keeps me more engaged with the amp (not that I couldn't happily stick with 807s). My current preferred alternates to 807s are Genalex KT77s, but Tung Sol KT66s and Svetlana Winged C EL34s are also in the rotation.
