Title: DM945 owners
Post by markj941 on 02/26/22 at 18:55:48

Steve doesn't use a xover in this model. He uses a 3.3uf capacitor on the tweeter, and runs the two speakers out of phase of each other.
How is this done? From his schematic, it looks like one of the sides of the cap goes to the (neg) side of the tweeter.
The other side of the cap goes to the (pos) side of the woofer. Then he runs a wire from the tweeter (pos) to the (neg) side of the woofer. Do I have this right? If so, why would this sound better than a traditional in phase setup?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mark,

Yes that sounds right.

I know that a lot of speaker designers run the tweeters out of phase. My big Troels Gravesen designed SBA-761's tweeters are wired out of phase.

I believe that it helps with out of phase suck out when the drivers cross.
But I have been known to wrong about a lot of stuff!

Try it both ways and see what way sounds better to you, just don't solder them up permanently until you decide.

the impedance doubles or halves depending on series or parallel wiring

Yes also what lazb said !

Read this for a little about it too.

I am building a DNA2 with the same drivers and wanted to confirm which woofer is used 4ohm or 8 ohm with that 5 ohm tweeter?  Thanks

4 ohm Silver Flutes is what I always use.
