Title: Interesting article about audiophiles

This article, when read objectively, can be food for thought.

Reading this article gave me a bit of a scare.  I began thinking that I might be a hifi fetishist.  Could I be be an audiophile lunatic?  And then I realized that the three hours of music I listened to today (and thoroughly enjoyed, by the way), was done by means of four different audio systems………
System 1:  Spotify, iPad, earbuds that came with the iPad
System 2:  School bus CD player with school bus speakers
System 3:  Amazon Prime Music, Samsung TV, Yamaha A-S701 integrated amp, Soliloquy 5.3 speakers
System 4:  Amazon Prime Music and Spotify through 2014 Toyota Avalon premium audio system.
What a relief to know that I’m not a hifi fetishist!

Try hifi fetishism in the search field…….that worked for me.

I know guys (and they are always guys) who are more into audio gear than they are into listening to music. Just as I know guys who are more into golf clubs than playing golf or more into cameras than photography or more into tools than woodworking. But that's a long way from "fetishism" IMO.

I really believe its about expectations and ego.  I have an expectation that there is going to be a sound that is created that is expected to be of a certain quality and the ego to believe that i can achieve that expectation thru HIFI fisting.

Never heard of hi-fi fisting, but I enjoyed the article and I can imagine how I might have leaned into this tendency in the past.

I think we've all seen the Big Shiny Better gear and drooled some, but a lot of good points were made and using a familiar (to some) metaphor kind of drives the point that much further.

These days I am where I am and it's not bad at all.

I don't want to get all religiousy and say count your blessings, but maybe celebrate your wins as they come. This a battle, afterall.

A shameful mock or shameful ignorance.

Either way it’s also a super stupid assed post.

Self evident.

I tried reading the article twice. Just can't get past the BS. There are obsessive folks that live and breath audio reproduction equipment for sure. For me, an attachment is in force with my system to the point that if it is running well then all is fine. If its not, then an obsession forms to get her back in shape. When warm air returns and trees blossom, she just collects dust resting.

Most of the time, I can ride in a car for hours and not even turn on music listening to the sounds of driving. Ride a bicycle for hours without earbuds, even though the buds are in my pack, listening to the breeze blowing past moving ears and tires rolling on stone/ asphalt.

All relaxing to me. Life is 👍

John
