Just spoke with Bob from Turning Point concerning the upcoming new HR-2 speaker. First off, this is not a revision to the existing HR-1, it is a completely new speaker. Of course, the Omni 360 radial, forward firing midrange and tweeter remain as mainstays along with the passive radiator. However, all of the drivers are new and improved. The cabinet has also gone through some updates for increased bass response but remains essentially the same dimension wise as the HR-1. Bob, was quick to point out that he did a lot of work on the crossover to achieve his goal for a more natural, neutral and smooth sounding presentation including the use of new internal hook-up wire and Cardas binding posts. Speaker sensitivity is essentially unchanged.

To quote Bob “I went for the biggest and best badass sound I could get”

Now, we have a good news, bad news scenario and I always go for getting the bad news out of the way first. Here it is, there will unfortunately be a price increase after the first of the year. Don’t know how much, but gotta figure somewhere between 5 and 10 percent, right? The good news is, if you place your order before the first of the year you will lock in the current price for the new product.

In which case you have a win/win situation. First you get the new HR-2 model and second, for the current price that really applies to the HR-1.

So how would you describe the sound signature of the new HR-2?

I listened to the HR-2's at the fest this year, albeit powered by a SE84, so just a bit underpowered.

The sound was very powerful sounding, nice bass and so sweet in the midrange.

Well worth whatever the asking price.

My recommendation is to just buy a pair, you won't be disappointed one bit.

Palo,

I was only at the fest a short time on early Friday afternoon this year.
The weekend became overbooked for me, I ended up at a high school football game and motorcycles races all weekend.
My year had been a big zero up until that weekend, then everything at once.

I didn't bring anything because Steve had said that there wasn't room for such things this year.

I did have several pairs of speakers that I sure wanted to show off though.

I wonder how the midrange and upper range of the new HR-2 compares with the same of the new Tube Tots.

Hello. So to order the HR-2 you make an order online for the HR-1? Are there any photos of the different wood finishes online? Thanks and enjoy your new speaker when it arrives.

I've long lusted after the HR-2. They would pair beautifully with the Torii MKV I have ordered.

Saving up for them and being patient vs giving in and buying something like the much cheaper Wharfedale Linton (which I think seems to be a pretty good value) is a challenge but the HR-2s will be worth it.
