Title: GR X-SLS build

Having built the bookshelf LS speaker this spring I wanted to try the tower version. I bought the upgraded kit with the best capacitors and resistors and a flat pack.

I don’t have a lot of experience with mdf and a few flaws in the flat pack required some fettling:

The bottom wasn't flush either.

Both of those required a bit of hand planing with a block plane and sanding so the the veneer wouldn't show seams.

Then it was so humid I had to delay finishing as the tung oil wouldn’t harden. When it finally dried the finish wasn’t great so I used three coats wipe on satin poly to even things up.

All I have to do is change ends on my speaker cables and they’re ready for burning in.

They really do sound good, Danny Richie has a fine ear for tuning crossovers for the most pleasing result. Not so efficient, though, so I have a few upgrades to make in my signal chain as little Rachael isn’t up to pushing 87dB speakers into the loud zone. I'll just have to be patient while my current order works it’s way to the bench.
