Title: Omega Deephemp 8 Subwoofer
Post by piezoman on 01/28/21 at 17:09:55

I've finally decided on a bass foundation. It stands to reason that the natural choice for my setup to augment the Omega Jr. XRS towers is an Omega DeepHemp 8, since this was specifically designed by Louis for synergistic, seamless integration.

150w, not one of those ultra loud bass-happy thumpers to screw up the karma. I'm not a bombastic basshead, just need something sensible and designed for the system.

Got one from Audiocircle, 4 yrs. old, A+ condition, at half the cost of a new one. Now I'm working on a good power cord and a set of speaker cables.

Looking forward to experiencing the full monte.

Anyone else here use a sub with good success?

I have with my Zu Audio Omen Def 1b with very good success.  I have two JL Audio E-Sub e110.  I had JL Audio assist me with setting them up properly and the crossover frequency is set at 90 Hz.  With most music and at certain volume levels, there was a noticeable, improved low end.  I am sold on using subwoofers.

They are not in use currently until I break in my new Volti Razz, however I will use them with the Razz.  I just don't know what crossover frequency.  I will have to set them up again.

Enjoy!!

RJR, thanks for your input. 2 subs.....how large is your room? Those JL's look to be quite impactful!

Mine is just 12x10.....just 1 sub will probably do the trick, I'm hoping anyway. Maybe at the 1/4 point off a bit from the front wall....not sure if right at a corner is advisable.....we'll see.

Yeah, the crossover.....that will take some tweaking to discern at what point on the dial, as well as the amount of gain.

Do you use the speaker level, or line level inputs? In my case, I'm going with speaker [high] level, thus the pair of speaker cables....since this isn't a home theater application.

Do you use isolation platforms for your subs? I'm looking at an Auralex Acoustics SubDudeII, but that's just an idea at the moment.

My room is the finished room over the garage.  Hard to explain without seeing a pic, but the set up is around 12 x 20.  Though the actual room is larger.  I use the line inputs on the subs and I do not have any sub platforms.  I am interested, yet I am going to purchase a pair eventually for my speakers first.  Probably from, https://butcherblockacoustics.com/

I believe, once you get the sub dialed in, you will be very, very happy with its performance.  Subs seem to be complicated to position and set up properly so you need patience.  Luckily JL Audio assisted me or I may have sold them.  I am so glad I did not.

Got it, thanks RJR.

Piezoman- I have exactly that same sub with my Omega's. Louis and Steve are like Zen twins separated at birth I think. The match with the speakers is great, it does a good job fleshing out the lower end, good tone. Should you run into an issue with it Louis is great a supporting the product line. Let us know how it works out when you get it. Happy listening, Chris.

Nice find! I have a DeepHemp 8 as well but paid full price (worth every penny IMO). Mine is paired with Omega's Super 3i Monitors. I couldn't be happier with it's performance. Best of luck with it.

Does anyone else use a platform under the sub? Any other recommendations for a platform?

Vibration won't go through in either direction -- other than the natural vibration of the springs, which is a few Hertz when loaded.

Several Deep Hemp owners like these, hVent used them myself.

thanks HK!

makes sense, suspend the sub from the floor a bit. $60 is pretty cheap.

so i decided to give it a shot. 30 day returns, so that works for me. just put my order in.....

Crutchfield is great. Quick shipping and good return policy. Just bought an Audiolab CDT6000 transport to replace my old, dead TEAC.

The Iso-Acoustics looks like what I make DIY.  The Auralex won't isolate as well IMO.

Today its in the system!

Incredibly seamless and sounding wonderfully musical! A perfect match...... :-*LOVE IT

Sub package installed:

Omega Deephemp 8 [used]
Highwire 700 LSI speaker cables [used]
Tara Labs Prism Reference AC power cord [used]
Isoacoustics ISO-200SUB subwoofer stand

All for right about $750, saving a fat wad of cash.
