Title: FRX2 good for classical music?
Post by Stefan on 01/13/21 at 01:20:06

I'm interested in the FRX2 driver but read on Steve's page that it SPL is limited. Has anyone experience with the FRX2 in the ZOB and listing to large orchestra music? Does it have enough SPL reserves to cover those big dynamic jumps?

Thanks!

After owning the FRX2 for several years, I found no trouble with dynamic range. I do not know of their maximum SPL, which seems to be your question. My room is 13 X 19 X 8. In this room, the SPL could get to be too much for me, but clear even at the loudest passages. I think that there is more to be said about the ability for detail with these drivers.
What configuration or cabinet type will you be considering?

Thanks for the reply!
My room is 20x20 with open ceiling to the 2nd floor and no rear wall as open to the kitchen. I was considering the FRX2 with some open baffle speaker like ZOB or PAP. I know ended up with some Infinity IRS Beta which fill the room with concert level sound with no issue  :)
