The Great Man's quarter millennium birthday is almost upon us. I think I will celebrate by listening to the 9th symphony.

Yes indeed. I remember well his 200th, even though I was in elementary school. I played Fur Elise like 200 times. My parents never recovered. I’ve been working through all the symphonies, string quartets, piano sonatas, concertos and various recordings of my all time favorite, desert island piece, the Missa Solemnis.

Oh yeah, and December 16th is also my wife’s birthday. So big day at our house.

Fur Elise is the most beautiful music I know.
But I sympathize with your parents, I laughed when I read that. I don't think I could listen to it 200 times.

Yes, this was supposed to be a year of Beethoven concerts and festivals, but of course the pandemic changed all that.  I have been working through the vast DG/Decca anthology, and enjoying the journey. I am also pleased to report that Steve's ZMA sounds utterly brilliant driving the Bösendorfer VC7 speakers I found used at a local hifi store.  The Missa Solemnis is playing now. Happy Birthday Ludwig.

I’ll have to make a point that day to play some Beethoven.  Maybe I’ll even watch the movie for kickers!!

We used to play a lot of classical music when my wife was pregnant and my daughter was born.  She enjoyed it in her early years, but now she likes jazz more.  Go figure.

Ever since I was a child I admired him, unfortunately I have 0 talent in music and my only joy is to listen to it and enjoy it's beauty.

Nothing wrong with that. I grew up playing in orchestras, and played clarinet through college, perhaps with more enthusiasm than ability. But I hung it up decades ago and have been perfectly happy listening to the best musicians in the world ever since.
