Long shot I know, but putting it out there nonetheless.  PM me please.

I wish you well on the hunt. These do come up from time to time. The reason is probably that the Mystery Amp, like the 60 watt mono blocks is a final destination amp, not an entry level amp like the Zen.

Hi Jimbo. Please don’t steer possible buyers away from the Zen. With the right drivers, it IS an end game amplifier. Mine is the last amp I’ll ever buy. I’m never lacking in volume. Could not be happier with it.

I would love to hear a Zen in my cavernous living room.  But I doubt it would give near enough volume for the space.  My prejudice tells me that the Zen is still a "niche" amp.  (Right now I'm upstairs listening at 1/4 volume on my ZMA!)

Archie, you just might be surprised with it driving your very efficient F-15’s. But, with that said, my room is prolly a good bit smaller than yours - 13’ x 24’.

Like I said, I'd love to hear it but I just can't imagine how it could fill my space given the limits of the ZMA with HR1s.  Here is a picture of part of the space.  The footprint is nominally 17'X35'.  I was just pointing out that not all spaces will work with a Zen.

These pictures are pre HR1s and F15s.

Archie,
How many Watts is 1/4 on the volume knob of a Mystery amp?

Brian

I've owned at least 6-8 Decware amps from Zen x 3  to Tori Mk4 to Mini tori x 3 to Rachael.  And there's no such thing as destination anything for me.  It's all about synergy between speakers, room , amp, Pre, etc and it's also fun to try different things. Call me crazy. Variety is the spice of life.

Archie, it looks like that room is an acoustical challenge. More watts might fill the room, but I wonder if that only exacerbates any sound issues you have.

You'd be surprised at how good the acoustics are.  The sloping surfaces really break things up and there are lots of other surfaces that help.  It certainly isn't a treatable room though.  Sound quality across the volumes stays sharp.  Funny thing is that some sounds are louder upstairs than down.  What isn't shown is the grand piano in one of the corners.  I've had live music solos and duets of many different instruments in years past and it always sounded great.

Back to the point, I still don't think 2 watts would ever satisfy in a space like this.

I was wrong once; many times.
