Title: A question about bass . . .
Post by Redstar on 08/28/20 at 23:50:11

I am just about ready to take the plunge into the world of SET amps and high sensitivity speakers - particularly the ZF models from Decware or the various offering from Caintuck - but I had a question about bass. Am I correct in understanding that the actual bass output of those types of speakers is not all that deep, but the bass that is there is so extremely fast and nimble that it SEEMS deeper and more forceful than it might actually be?

I've been listening to a UFO25TH, ZR2 and Caintuck F15s for a month or two now. Before that I was listening to a ZMA with the F15s.

I've had full range setups 20-20khz for years and years.

Short answer: You are correct. The speed at which the lower frequencies hit you can be startling at times, especially when you have the volume up a bit.

The Caintuck F15s will not rumble the house, yet amount of enjoyment from them is shocking.

I go back and forth with turning on and off the sub. It might be because the system isn’t properly setup with the sub yet.

I have not heard the ZF models. Since they have a larger baffle they will play lower.

I’ve had people think the sub is on when it’s been off.
