Post by jaco03 on 07/02/20 at 09:28:27

Just wondering if the shuguang 274b is compatible with my 2013
Se84 zenamp? Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Maybe  ;). A "true" 274B needs to see a smaller capacitor than a 5U4/5R4/GZ34 rectifier but there a plenty of people who say the Shuguang isn't a true 274B and is Ok with higher capacitance. If the capacitance is to high the tube will still work, it will just wear out faster.

I can't give you a straight answer (and the answer almost certainly varies from tube to tube) but what I know for sure is I bought some for my (Woo Audio) preamp/headphone amp and wasn't impressed. I'm an unrepentant NOS guy anyway, but IMO there are so many other rectifiers, both NOS and current production that are compatible that I wouldn't mess with it. But that is just my opinion, I've got a couple with really low hours I'd sell you cheap if you want to try it  :).

Thanks James. All the decware site says is certain 274bs and I am not technical enough to know which is compatible  If mine goes
I’ll just get one off decware.

It seems from all that I read that this Shuguang is compatible with the Decware amps. I believe in fact that the Valve Audio is likely a Shuguang manufactured tube itself.

For another option.  Check out thetubestore.com preferred series 274b / 5u4  It’s made in the Shuguang factory.  Comes with a 6 month warranty.  I’ve been enjoying it in a UFO25th.  It is a tight fit on my ZP3 needed to tilt the tube a little so it doesn’t hit the transformer.  Or get a socket saver and you’re good to go.

Yes, I got mine from TheTubeStore. The question is do you like the sound?

So down at the bottom of my tube caddy I have a pair of Tubestore.com Shuguang "Preferred" 5U4G/274B rectifiers I bought before I knew what I was doing, and I finally got around to trying them in my UFOs. And I'll be darned if they don't sound really good. Not my favorites, for sure, but I could live with them. Of course I have no idea about how long they last, which is my primary concern with current production, but if anyone is looking for current production rectifier that isn’t crazy expensive I can recommend these.
