Title: I'm starting to run low
Post by Donnie on 03/08/20 at 01:53:32

I had 5 pairs of speakers here in my listening room just a few weeks ago, now I'm down to only one pair. They are my good open baffles, so don't feel sorry for me.
I moved my pair of "rockers" out to the garage today because it feels like spring has started to move in.
Anyway, I have given away 3 pairs of speakers in the last few week, sometimes it is handy to be my friend.
Thinking about it, I have never sold any of my stereo stuff, I always seem to give it away, weird.
Currently I am thinking about building some sort of "Barn Rockers" for a couple of friends of mine who have just bought themselves property's with semi large buildings on them.
Anyone have any ideas for how to fill large areas with listenable sound?

If you feel the need to give away your 25th anniversary amp, please think of me. :)  lol since your are in the spirit of giving.

I'll bite, Donnie.

Biamp your favorite feed with 1100 RMS watts of DC powered mosfets into two Bose 901 EQs with each side comprising of a stacked set of 901's mounted on tripod stands with the top 901 speaker sandwiched with a lazy susan to the bottom 901 for the hi end. For the bottom end, feed a total 1200 RMS watts from 4 sub plate amps into a stack of 8.75 and 4.5 cu/ft vented enclosures mounted with PE Professional 18" and 15" drivers tuned to 20 and 40 hz each side respectively.

If you feeling lazy, the setup is available very reasonably at the moment.

Warning prolonged use might pop a few nails in the old dry barn oak ;D

John

I just ordered up a bunch of stuff from Parts Express for my Barn Rockers.
The plan is still in a very malleable state at this time, ideas come and go quickly.
But for right now the general consensus is pointing to something that is monolithic. The feeling is that separate speakers would add too much complexity for something to play music in a barn.
So I have ordered a 12" Hsu sub driver that PE had on clearance.
I'll stuff it into a Death Box enclosure and then place 4-8" GRS Pioneer clone full range drivers, 2 to a side on either side of the sub.
I'll also put a pair of cheap Dayton Audio tweeters crossing over at around 5k on top to help them sparkle.
Think of a giant boom box on wheels around 36" wide, 32" tall and 14" deep.
Dayton also has a 2.1 channel Bluetooth amp for silly cheap, so that will probably be what will power it. Remember this is for a barn, the mice won't care if it is tube or not.
Oh yeah it will be painted barn red. It has to be red.

Be sure and find a place on top for a red rooster weather vane, Donnie!
