Title: Question about Torii II power
Post by Shakeydeal on 08/26/19 at 14:27:53

Does anyone know if the power output of the Torii II increases by using KT-88s? Or is it the same as EL-34s?

Thx

No way to adjust the bias, so I would not think any power increase.

From the Torii II design notes:

The choice of output tubes in the new TORII greatly enhances the joy of tube rolling. You can use EL34's or 6550's or KT88's each with excellent results.  All three sound a touch different. (It is important in this amp that you run matched pairs of output tubes because a non-matched pair can cut the overall power in half.)

From the Torii III owners manual:

Unlike the TORII MK II that used EL34, KT77, 6550 or KT88 without re-biasing the TORII MK III uses our new Hazen Grid Technology to push the transparency, speed, tightness to a level that greatly surpasses the alternate tubes. Since this is the case, extra voicing was used to get the maximum sonics from the EL34 at the cost of making any of the
above listed alternates a waste of time because they will not sound as good.
