Title: Better Records
Post by Showme on 04/05/19 at 13:58:21

Is anybody familiar with this website? https: www.better-records.com.  I ran across it the other day and found it interesting. I haven't made a purchase from them yet but I think I will try them.

I wasn't aware at all but am intrigued now. Money back guarantee seems worth a try.

That's what I thought. They must be pretty confident in their product/premise.

These carnys have been around for a long time. They charge megabucks for an ordinary record that they say is pressed real good. Snake oil.

Let's not drag Carny's down to this level!

Yes indeed you have a point well taken there

Snake oil. Oh, good. Maybe they sell some really expensive cables too!

I think they stock Blowmeum as well

Actually Rivieraranch, they now stock Blowmeum II. It's a new and improved formula that sells for 75% more than original Blowmeum.😎

I read that there is going to be a shortage of Blowmeum.
Best stock up now, don't be late!

I hear the snake oil, blowmeum thing, I really do, but I have to look back at my journey thus far with sound reproduction. I have felt that same intinial reaction about many things regarding better sound and have found that opinions and points of view vary a lot on the internet and the only way to know anything is to try it yourself.

But aren't these just the same standard pressings that I'm buying for $20 to $25 per LP, just play graded and marked up 600% to 1200%!?

I think so. That's how I've read a few of the descriptions. I also read something that led me to believe they remaster as well but I'm not sure. They do have way too many links to follow to try and understand what exactly is going on. But yeah curation seems to be a big part of the mark up.

Having actually hearing a Better Record not just making an assumption.  I listened to a Frank Sinatra record that was the best sounding vinyl I've ever heard.  It was startling good.

My issue is really the selection, that and I don't have turntable... yet.

details.

I guess that we are paying someone else to go through a pile and come up with a winner, as far as sound quality is concerned. There is no doubt that some pressings really do sound shitty. Then every once in a while you hear the same recording that sounds better due to lack of maybe surface noise, or somehow it is just better, without going into what that might even mean.

I just think it would be fun for a group of individuals to bring over they're best sounding vinyl for the group to listen too and then award a prize to the winner like a raffle.  Everybody throws in $5and winner takes all.

Maybe a monthly friendly competition  with food and drinks.  A way to geek out over sound systems and listen to some tunes.

Just my humble opinion.
Miles Davis Kind of blue. $370USD

It is a second hand record by Columbia, it is used.

If this was actually the holy grail of recording they would at the very least offer a picture of the back jacket so one could read what pressing it is.
If the Co was serious, 100% confident they would provide the Matrix number from the edge of the vinyl itself.

I believe I have this exact record in my small collection. Columbia PC4153. They also have Take five, CS8192 for $1000.00! I paid less than $20 in our Canadian dolarettes, maybe 5 years ago.

Just my thoughts on this.
Also if this is a $20 LP being sold at $1,000.00 the money back guarantee is a bit of a farce.

Cheers,

a.
