Please watch this video to gain profound insight into what sound actually is and how it is physical and how it involves your whole body. This famous woman is deaf, but holy crap can she play. Watch her play the music off the sheet and then play the music with improvisation. This captures what it is to be human, what it is to experience music, and what music is. Well worth some thoughtful review.

This followup video I found is really good. She has a collection of sticks for percussion playing... to select the proper stick she would have to know what the room was. Think about this... she is deaf.
