Title: my first diy
Post by MyBlueSky on 02/22/19 at 18:34:20

Just built the Amp Camp Amp from the DIY audio store for a small system in our living room.
8 watts a side, class A, solid state designed by Nelson Pass. Sounding very sweet being fed by a Schiit stack, and driving a pair of monoliths.
I think the next project will be the Zkit4 gain stage.

Looks awesome!

I've been thinking about ACA for a while now, I've got the boards and most of the parts, just need a chassis.

Nice little setup!  Can you comment on how the ACA sounds?

Job well done! Pass amps have a great reputation and I bet this sounds nice.

Thanks for the positive feedback. The build wasn't too difficult as the holes in the chassis were pre-drilled. Using a decent soldering iron and good solder made the work go smoothly. The kit included a comprehensive guide and the members on DIY audio were friendly and supportive. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process.

The amp does sound great. It has a good grip on the low end with excellent dynamics. The soundstage isn't very wide or deep in our living room but to my ears it has a focus and for lack of better word a "density" that makes for an enjoyable sound with no fatigue. The monoliths have a nice synergy with this amp. The ribbon tweeters help squeeze some detail in the treble which is the not the most prominent or detailed. I'm unfairly comparing to my Torii lol. Source is currently a Mac-book pro running Audirvana Plus streaming Tidal via usb into a Project Pre Box digital S2.
