Title: Zen Kit #1 Substitutions
Post by Fernando on 01/07/19 at 15:13:22

Hi All. I’m attempting to build the Zen kit 1. I have most of the parts but some are not available at mouser, so I was wondering if certain substitutions would be ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sub 1

Ohmite
Resistor; Wirewound; Res 10 Kilohms; Pwr-Rtg 5 W; Tol 5%; Axial; Silicone-Ceramic

for

Mouser #:    280-CR5-10K-RC
Mfr. #:    280-CR5-10K-RC

Sub 2

NTE Electronics, Inc.
RECTIFIER SILICON PRV=1000V IF=1.0A DO-41 CASE
Manufacturer #: NTE125
Allied Stock #: 70214781

For

Mouser #:    625-RGP10M-E3
Mfr. #:    RGP10M-E3/54

Sub 3

Ohmite Resistor; Wirewound; Res 150 Ohms; Pwr-Rtg5 W; Tol 5%; Axial; Vitreous Enamel

for

Mouser #:    71-CP0005150R0JE14
Mfr. #:    CP0005150R0JE14

Does anyone foresee any problems? Thanks. I'm using the Allied website to look for replacements as they seem to have the rest of what I need in stock.

The diodes can be (are) 1N4007.  Any 1n4007 should work fine.  Many available at Mouser under a quarter.

The resistor substitutions look fine.

Thanks for the response!

I would also sub the 1k 6W resistor with a 1k 50W resisitor. Steve made that swap in later models and it fits right in - I did that swap on my ZKIT1 after the original 6W got way hot. You’ll have to put the 50W off the PCB board if you do that swap, however - it’s pretty big. It should actually be screwed into the chassis.

Mouser #: 71-NH0501K000FE02

So I have the listed parts and substitutions for parts that are not in stock. benlefebvre mentioned above that I should replace the 1k 6W resistor with a 1k 50W one.

Anyone else has any suggestions for upgrades or replacements that I should consider and what are they?

Any possibility that the 50 WATT resistor isn't a typo, and should be a 5 WATT resistor?
