Title: Digital Optical cable
Post by Showme on 01/03/19 at 20:12:33

Is there a significant difference in a cheap optical cable (in this case Rocketfish) and a more considerably more expensive one. I'm guessing so since lots of expensive I/C's are sold. If so any suggestion on what is good?

I have found differences in optical cables and the one I liked most doesn't cost insane money. . . . it's glass strands rather than fiber optic and really gives a clear, dynamic, neutral tonal balance presentation:

I have heard great things about the Lifatec that Lon mentions and I trust his ear and recommendations.  I personally use a Sys Concepts glass cable,..  http://www.sysconcept.ca/product_info.php?products_id=364&osCsid=nfmb11mdt79ts97v483ijf2hk5    Very similar to the Lifatec.  Both very highly regarded on the PSA forum.  and better yet both pretty inexpensive compared to the 'Audiophile' competition!

I should also add that when I replaced my cheap plastic Toslink cable with the Sys Concept cable,  the improvement was subtle but noticeable.  Definitely provided a lot more air (3D space) around the upper harmonics/freq's within the soundstage.  ymmv

Thanks, I figured I could better. I had come across mention of the cable Lon recommended. Also a glass cable from DH Labs, their Silver Sonic Glassmaster. Found a mint used one of those for $115. I definitely upgrade based on these recommendations.

I use the Wireworld SuperNova 7 and found it to sound noticeably better than the cheapo I was using previously. Smoother highs, more spatial cues, and mid bass improved.

Another recommendation for Lifatec .. great cables at a fair price. They can also pass a 24/192 signal without issue if high-res means something to you.
