Title: Blown rectifier?
Post by laurence on 08/30/18 at 15:57:39

Hi there. I am not sure if my zen triode rectifier has blown . After a week or so I just turned it on and there was a big flash and then nothing. No tubes lit at all. Managed to find spare fuse. Original fuse had blown.Should I just try again with new fuse or should I replace rectifier first? Apologies if this may have been asked before but I could not find anything. Cheers and thankyou  .

Turn it on without rectifier in it. If everything lights up then, yes, it was likely your rectifier.

Yep. Did that and the other tubes light up. Guess it is time for a new rectifier.

If a new rectifier doesn’t fix the problem, there are 3 internal fuses. I just went thru this with my Zen. One of those fuses was blown.

Just want to check before putting a new rectifier in. I put the blown one in again and it did the same. It arced and blew the fuse. Does this mean the rectifier might be ok and something else might be at fault! Or do blown rectifiers keep blowing?

Try another rectifier.  If it doesn't work, then it is prolly an internal fuse.

Thanks guys. Yes it was the rectifier. I ordered a cheap electroharninix rectifier just in case it blew. But it works quite fine. It actually sounds quite good for the £11 it cost me. I intend to splash out on a decent rectifier ( thinking mullard gz32  and keep the eh as a spare.

Geno,  Mullard GZ32 is a good one! One of my faves.
