I've always had a hard time dealing with photos here, but this takes the cake. I want a profile photo and pasted the link from imageshack. The site won't take it. What the hell is wrong?

This forum code predates the facebook era and has no means to transcode images or videos to a workable size, so you have to resize the pictures before you try to upload them to the forum. A good width for this forum is 800 pixels wide or less. The limit in KB for a picture is 1000 KB. If the picture is less than 1000 KB it will upload fine regardless of what size it is.

The avatar has a size limit in pixels of no greater than 72 pixels wide and no greater than 95 pixels tall. Resize your avatar to those dimensions and it should work fine.

Thanks Steve. I resized the picture to 72 pixels wide and 75 tall but I still can't do anything with it.

The problem might be your picture host site settings.

I tried importing it from imageshack. I looked at my settings and there isn't a damn thing that would prevent the address of the pic from translating to a little icon here. I just give up. I've spent more time on this than I would have to do any number of things.

I found two problems...

1) the URL was incorrect. It started with http://https://www

2) it seems the browser cash or the forum software will not show you the newly changed picture while you're still in the "my center" area, so the only way to know if it worked was to come back to the forum threads and see.

Anyway, mission accomplished!
