Title: SE84 UFO3 Power Supply for Continous Service
Post by FullRangeMan on 05/09/17 at 11:30:04

Hi.
To my surprise there is no info about which is the new tube being used in the new double power supply.
What tube is this?

Question:
I would order a pair these amps with bigger transformers to run 8/10 hours per day?
The power transformer seems small only 250VA to my eye, I would desire somethibg to 500W.
Thanks in advance

I believe it's using an OA3. You're right though, I looked at the product page and I can't find any info either.

For what it's worth, I run the SE84UFO at least 8 hours a day, sometimes 14 or so with no issues at all.

What issues would be expected, if there was any?

None. You can run a Decware amp 24/7 if you want to with no issues. They don't recommend running it when nobody is around.

The transformer will be the first to over heat, mainly the small OPT inside the chassis.
Usually most tube amps dont resist to this test you made and the OPT fail, its a good indicative of quality.

The power transformer used on the UFO3 amplifiers are rated @173ma, this is same transformer used on the SE84 UFO which uses two SV83(6N15), typical operating points for these are 25ma. plate current and 5ma. screen grid current. So the power transformers are far more adequate for the job then need be. The amplifiers are internally fused in the event tube short.

Can’t comment on technical aspects on this subject, but my amps have been running with and without for a whole weekend none stop. No issues, sound is as good as can be. No heat issues at all. Still, I know I’m not supposed to leave them running, but I have forgotten to turn them off sometimes.
