Title: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Matchstikman on 11/10/16 at 16:44:46 Has anyone seen this? I bumped into this while buying socks, of all things, on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KKFTM5S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13BNE3P7C8THK |
Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Lonely Raven on 11/10/16 at 20:11:13 I've not tried it, but everyone's getting on that bandwagon now that people are starting to believe that bits-is-bits is a fallacy. IMHO, Optical Digital has too many conversions (from one media to another) and each conversion is jitter prone, and I think the bandwidth on optical SPDIF is only 24/96. In theory optical would be ideal as it would galvanically isolate equipment, could better transmit the on/off bits than voltage based USB, and could have crazy bandwidth...but we'd need to drop the current optical standard and start fresh with a new format. So I think there are better options out there. |

Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Ninja00151 on 11/17/16 at 06:12:13 I bought one and the smps that it uses injects a metric fuckload of noise into your power supply, contaminating everything else. It was so bad I was able to find noise on my SPDIF output alone, with just the smps brick plugged in. I have no idea how this thing can pass FCC regulations, let alone be a "hifi" product. Imho you're better off getting a DAC with built-in jitter correction. I plan on a Schiit Gungnir Multibit if I ever feel the need to upgrade from my Modi MB. Nothing against Steve's DACs, I just like Multibit DACs conceptually. |

Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Matchstikman on 11/17/16 at 14:53:47 Thanks, Lon. I did not know those products existed. |
Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Lon on 11/17/16 at 15:01:57 They're just hitting the market, just out of beta testing I believe. Beta testing experience in part is chronicled here: http://www.psaudio.com/forum/directstream-all-about-it/ps-audio-lanrover/ http://www.psaudio.com/forum/accessories-cables-tweaks-tuning/beta-testers-wanted-for-lanrover/page-14/ |
Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Matchstikman on 11/17/16 at 15:42:08 PS Audio makes some nice stuff. |
Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Lon on 11/17/16 at 15:48:15 Indeed. PS Audio and Decware are a great combo in my two systems. |
Title: Re: iFi SPDIF iPurifier Digital Optical Audio Filter Post by Lonely Raven on 11/17/16 at 16:53:57 Also an option, that is out and has been working well for a while. http://www.sonore.us/microRendu.html It's Roon compatible, and basically allows your playback software to see it as a Network interface, and outputs USB to your DAC. Almost like a PS Audio Bridge, but handles higher speed DSD, and is $700 vs the cost of the bridge. |
