Hi All: It’s been a while since I have been here. It’s good to see that Steve and team continue to develop and turn out great equipment, and that the forums remain lively. My Taboo 3 is the last of my all-tube equipment. I have used it to run Audez’e LCD-2 and LCD-4 planar headphones. But with my retirement and relocation, and my shift almost exclusively to electrostatic headphones, I find myself almost never listening on the Taboo. That’s a shame, because it is a marvelous amp, and the combo of the Taboo and Audez’e cans is very sweet. I have probably used this amp for less than 150 hours, if that much.

Here are the specs:

1. Purchased 4/24/2013
2. 110/120 volts
3. Natural Cherry Base
4. Cryo Treated Beeswax Caps
5. Knurled Gold Knobs
6. 4-pin balanced XLR headphone jacks
7. Stock tubes [I haven’t located my tubes from my move yet, but if I do, I will include some extras]

BONUS FOR ACTIVE/VETERAN ARMED SERVICES MEMBERS: for no additional cost, I will include my gently-listened Audez’e LCD-2 headphones.

All is very well my friend. Married again, no longer working my tail off taking care of my parents, living in the woods and just bought a brand new car. This is the good stuff. ;)

Can I ask, did you use this in conjunction with the CSP?

Did you use them to drive dynamic headphones, or just planar phones like thise from Audeze? I heard the CSP is better for dynamic headphones, and the Taboo only for planar. Did you find that true?

Did not use with the CSP. Never owned a CSP. I am not a a preamp guy for the most part. Used to be, when amps and sources were "all over the place." But now, there is greater consistency and reliability on specs and interaction. And for headphones, I found headphone amps had all the gain control I needed. Note, I did have an Ultra, which I absolutely loved. Fantastic piece of equipment.

So, I cannot give you any direct comparison information. I did listen to my Senn HD800 headphones on the Taboo 3, and I thought they sounded quite good. Still had the Senn brightness, so the Taboo did not dull them, but better counterbalanced with an organic warmth. Not quite as "lively" as they sound with the HeadAmp GS-X, and more like the King amp [which has a tube stage].

For sheer comfort, I can wear the HD800 all day, but for pure sound, I will pick the Audez'e every time, and on the Taboo, it just sounds great.

I actually use a CSP2+ with my Oppo PM-1 planar headphones and it works perfectly.
