Post by Core32 on 07/26/16 at 21:58:06 I do not have a link for speed as requested, though in a tube rectifier I am not sure what the speed effect would be on sound. Not saying there isn't one of course. This link has a pretty lengthy discussion on what effects tube rectification can have on the sound of an amp: http://www.tubemaze.info/sound-of-rectifier/#comment-214 Read down a bit as the first poster does not say much. The only opinion I would have on what is written would be concerning the voltage drop. My feeling is that the reason rolling rectifiers has a noticeable effect on the sound is due to the fact the differing types run the follow on tubes in the chain at quite different bias levels. And that's just an opinion. Hope the link helps some. |

Post by Steve Deckert on 01/18/17 at 05:43:11 My guess is that speed (the ability of the rectifier to produce sudden and instantaneous amount of current) would be the result of the supporting components such as the power transformer and the filter capacitors. I know the size and quantity of filter capacitors have the most effect on the power supplies ability to deliver instantaneous amounts of current. A good power supply maintains this level of performance evenly across all frequencies. Having a power supply that is not tuned in this way is what separates amps that sound real from amps that sound hifi. Steve |
