Title: nos cifte 12au7 '62
Post by Tripwr1964 on 05/10/16 at 23:55:15

anyone using one of these in there zp3 (buffer spot)?
it's very detailed up top (which i like) but very forward and in your face at the same time.  prob only have about 10hrs on this one.... do they smooth out a bit with some more hours?

sticking with a tube for 30hrs to see how it sounds is like getting married... bit too much of a commitment.  lol

Trip- I have not tried that tube, were did you source it from? I found two Telefunkton 12AX7 made in West Germany that I installed a few weeks ago and really like the tone and presentation. Background percussion and such seem to be more in the foreground and pronounced. I will start playing with some different tubes in that position. Thanks and happy listening, Chris.

chris
i got this one at upscale audio.  it's starting to grow on me.  the detail on this tube is very nice and with some extra hours it has lost some of that in your face edginess.
i haven't thought about pulling it for days now... so it must be ok.

Trip- thank you for the info. I will put one of those on next months wish list...this month seems kinda over the top with IC, tubes and music coming in every few days. Happy listening, Chris.

On the miniTori there is an treble shunt function which may take the edge of some possible harsness if you find that with the tubes or source. I use this function quite often. I'm expecting the zp3 in a month or so, and will be able to try several different tubes and learn a little more about characteristics.

Ordered on of these yesterday from Kevin @ Upscale and should be here in a week or so. I got to spend some great quality time this holiday weekend listening to some albums without distractions, so nice to have a few days off with most chores finished. Happy 4th of July and happy listening. Chris

Considering some extra tubes here as well. Not sure I need them for increased quality of sound, more for the fun of it and to spares when I will need some extra. Have to say that I tried some different tubes in my minitori amp and the difference was much easier to detect with the vinyl set compared to my not so great dac. Great fun with great gear.

i've been running the mazda 62 12au7 with two mazda 63 12ax7 and they sound fantastic. It is in your face at first but totally mellows out over time.
Hope you enjoy.

JD

I rec'd my tube from Upscale on Saturday morning, installed it and played records most of the day and night. I left the ZP3 on overnight and listened more on Sunday...really liking what I am hearing. I understand now the ''in your face'' comments but that is mellowing slightly. Sunday night had a tree fall in the ''hood, took out the AC / Comcast (no equipment damage though) and had a new pole, transformer Monday night until a coupling caught fire, generating a small grass fire which PGE and our local FD dealt with..and repaired Tuesday but no time to listen. Tonight though...another round with the ZP3. Happy listening, Chris.

It's been a couple months. How are those of you with the cifte liking it?
