Title: FS DECWARE Super Zen CKC
Post by Rivieraranch on 04/18/15 at 17:31:14

I am selling my DECWARE Super Zen CKC manufactured for me (orig. owner) in November 2012; serial number #017. This unit has the regular 120 volt, 2-6 ohm transformers; it served in my office setup, which is being disbanded due to an office move. Since November, 2012, approximately 30 months the unit has been turned on anywhere from 2-10 hours per day for approximately 20 days per month. This is anywhere from 1200 to 6,000 hours. However the mid point between these two figures is around 4,000. The original tubes have been replaced. The 4,000 hours mean that the transformers are fully seasoned and the sound has bloomed (i.e., improved) over the years.

The unit will be supplied with a power cord, one little used Valve Art 274B Rectifier tube, 2 new - 6P15P-EV power tubes from 1981 and one 6N1P-EV input tube with a 1972 date code. These are the tubes that the unit was voiced with and frankly I see no need to change them. You can read long threads on here about folks swapping the input tube for other costly and not altogether fully better alternatives, 6922; 7308; E188CC, 6BQ7A, etc and while the sound is different it is not necessarily better.

A Decware Super Zen CKC costs $895.00 new plus $55.00 shipping and requires several weeks of lead time, a total cost of $950.00

My price: $675 including shipping and PayPal fee. This means that you can receive the amp in a matter of days at substantially less than what a new one would cost.

The UFO modification is on the horizon that will boost the cost of a new Super Zen CKC from the present $895 to probably $1,095 to $1,195. While Decware has not confirmed the price of the new UFO version of the CKC, they have stated that the cost of modifying an existing CKC will be $300. So assuming that the purchaser of this sends it in for the modification, they will wind up with a new version CKC with the UFO transformers for less than the cost of ordering a new unit.

I have lots of DECWARE gear and I am a freak in that department. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I'm so trying not to notice this! I want an updated Zen, especially after hearing ProggRobs CKCS - and seeing how excited Steve is with the new UFO Transformers.

RR is good people with good taste in gear - someone buy this before I upset him with a lowball offer?  :)

How much to change to 8ohms?

You would have to ask DECWARE that question. This unit has the 4 ohm transformer. The 6-16 ohm transformer robs some ZEN from the overall sound.  Somebody was selling one recently with the 6-16 ohm transformer but I am not sure what happened with that. If you want one of these amps it is best to choose the one with the standard transformer. If you have 8 ohm speakers this will still drive them well if the sensitivity is in the mid 90's.

zen101 - this is a good excuse to buy this amp, and send it to Decware for the new UFO transformers! They have low taps and high taps for the speakers. Steve believes in letting you try both, and just use what sounds best to you - the amps are robust enough to take it.

Hi, I've been a lurker for a long time, but never joined or posted because I really don't have much experience or anything valuable to contribute.  Anyways, I'm interested in purchasing your amp if it's still available and you don't mind selling to a newbie.  Please PM me so we can discuss, if you're interested.

Thanks.

Please buy it, because I'm still tempted, and just too broke right now.  :)
