Title: New High-Def Van Halen
Post by Lonely Raven on 03/03/15 at 20:50:47

I just read this in another forum where I had bitched about the HDTracks Van Halen being bogus. The HD Tracks version had heavy limiting on it and wasn't HD by any stretch...but that didn't stop them from selling it for $25 an album!

So I'm glad to see a new mastering coming out. VH's Fair Warning and Steve's  heavily diffused listening room at his old house on Adams street are what got me here today.

And here is what pissed me off.

That's pretty cool.  I have the HDTracks and they aren't that great.  I usually stick to my vinyl for them, but this looks promising!

I remember reading in one of the Tone Audio issues that the only Van Halen music on HD Tracks that sounded excellent was the 'box set' of all their albums.  Oddly, the individual VH albums purchased separately from HD Tracks apparently sucked for SQ.  If that isn't an idiot business model I don't know what is.

Did they take all of the VH music down to get this sorted?
