Hi,

I have a Project 5.1SE that came w/ a Sumiko Blue Point #2 cart. Here are the specs:

high-output moving-coil design
nude-mounted 0.3 x 0.7mm elliptical diamond stylus
alloy tube cantilever
frequency response 15-35,000 Hz
output voltage: 2.5 mV
stereo separation: 32 dB
channel balance: 0.5 dB
tracking force range: 1.6-2.0 grams
recommended tracking force: 1.8 grams
load impedance: 47k ohms
cartridge weight: 6.3 grams

Lately I've been thinking that if a ZP3 appears in the classifieds at a price I can afford, I'd like to get it, but not if I'd then have to spring for a $600 step up transformer that Decware sells here.

Any thoughts on if my 2.5mV cart would really even need a sut? I'd be feeding it into my Torrii III then out to my 94db Monoliths.

Oh, and does anyone happen know if the new zp3's come w/ Jupitor caps like some of the other newer gear is? I don't see it in the literature so assume not. Just curious.

Greg- I don't think you will need a SUT. You should go straight into a ZP3. I had a Blue Point years ago when they first came out, ran it straight into a MM input on my Moscode Minuet in A. Best of luck on grabbing a ZP3, they come up once in a while. I am looking to replace my current phono pre with one.

I use a dynavector 20x2H which is 2.8mV and I go straight in and it sounds great.

Perfect, thanks attym. I'm glad to hear this from a couple people now. Having to spend for an SUT would likely have been a deal breaker for me. Glad you are enjoying your ZP3.

Hey Greg12, I got a Project Carbon that I bought with a Blue pt#2 instead of the standard cart. My ZP3 just passed QC and should be here next week! In time for the holiday weekend coming up. I'll do some listening and let you know how it sounds and works with the #2 Blue Pt. ;D

I've got a Zp3 now with the Jupiter Caps and I can say that I absolutely do not need a S.U.T.
