Title: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Real on 05/24/14 at 21:57:54 Just finish my second Zen Amp. My first was the ZKIT-1 Great sounding little amp. This one is point to point using online schematic and videos I think this one already sound better and I'm only using my Boston Acoustic Speakers Tomorrow I will need to try it with my Cornwall. Here is a picture of my beak in set up. Real |

Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Core32 on 11/07/14 at 00:11:02 Were these "online schematic and videos" part of a package? Or do you have a link? Very nice work by the way. I can solder pretty well but have a hard time drilling a round hole. :P |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Lonely Raven on 11/07/14 at 01:08:55 Very nice lookin'! Someday I'll get off my arse and build a twin to the one I bought from Steve in '98. |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Real on 11/07/14 at 11:43:20 Thank You, I just used the schematic and videos online. I read most of Steve paper's online and use that as a guide line. I order parts from different venders online upgrading the original parts from the Z KIT list. I must say that the first one I built was the Zen Kit with the board. That helped me understand how most of it worked. It does sound better than it looks and I am very please with it. To drill a round hole I used hole saws a little more expensive than the cone bit but it does a good job. Built yourself one you wont regret it and you will have much fun building it. Real |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Core32 on 11/07/14 at 19:07:51 Real, I see the schematics online here at Decware, but I do not see any videos. I'm probably overlooking them. Can you give me a link please? Thanks! |

Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by hdrider on 11/08/14 at 14:57:28 Good looking amp, it will get better sounding the longer you run it. I have a SE84CS that I built as a kit from Steve in the mid 2000 that I still use. Just had it on line for about 6 weeks while I waited for my Rachael amp and ZP3. I had Zygi make a custom base for mine which should arrive next week. Enjoy and let us know how it sounds on the Cornwalls. Happy listening, Chris. |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Real on 11/09/14 at 00:39:09 It sounds fantastic on the Cornwalls. I wish I could find a good schematic of the latest Rachael amp. I would love to try to clone one for myself. I know that my clone can't sound as good as Steve, however I really like the sound from my Se84C-S Clone. I just wonder how good I could make the Rachael sound. Ho Well. Real |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by zeke on 03/12/17 at 21:15:57 Great build......so my big question is..... I see you are using a tube based power supply so did you use the same Power transformer as spec'd in the solid state version? Also, wondering if you incorporated the CCE Mod. I used it on an existing SE84 and it made a nice difference.....recommended. Just asking because I have an itch to do a point to point build....love the smell of solder and rosin. ;) |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Alvaro Oliver on 07/31/17 at 20:18:25 I would also like to know if it is the same Zkit transformer. I suspect not. |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by Lonely Raven on 08/01/17 at 15:40:30 It looks like he built it more along the lines of a regular Zen amp rather than like the kits. |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by galtjunk on 01/20/22 at 12:25:27 I built one from the same schematic and videos. Edcor does have a transformer with the same specs and 5 volt taps for the rectifier tube. I did add the CCE mod. I use it in my office with a pair of Tiny Radials. It sounds wonderful. |
Title: Re: My Clone version of the Se84C-S Post by JBzen on 01/21/22 at 10:50:04 Galtjunk, Would you happen to have the part number for the Edcor transformer. I always wanted to build a point to point Decware amp but missed the opportunity when Steve offered it. Also, I already built the ZKIT1 and it sounds great. John |
