Title: Scaled Down Housewrecker for 6.5" Drivers: Shuman
Post by Henry on 06/07/13 at 08:02:02

Shuman started this topic. I'm also interested in the same thing, except,
I also would like to scale the Housewrecker for a pair of 8" drivers.

Any formulas that might better accomodate the task?

Hey, my first venture into Housewreckerdom used 8" drivers.

I did a few unorthodox things at first, using the existing enclosures and some added panels., creating a kind of pseudo HW.

I then had one ready as planned by specification. It was better than my hacked up version. However, it was not any better than two eight inch, carefully designed enclosures which support the two 8" drivers in each ones own enclosure.

Ultimately, I wound up using the established plans and wishing I had built a 15" enclosure, instead of scaling it down to 8".

It was great, if you just want to "out do" a bought enclosure but it was not as described using a 15" driver. (or several). Physics and such!

I ended up losing the 8" drivers in the end and simply going back to reality.

If you want to move a substantial amount of air - you need to use a large, powerful driver.

The scaling idea was to be able to use a pair of HWs for a small
room less than 10X12 feet.
Is there a better way to scale down the HWs than basically taking
the difference of driver size the original design is and using that
difference to scale the HWs to accomodate 6.5" drivers?

Go ahead if you want, but small drivers equal small sound and very little on the low end.

For a small room, the scaled sound would sound big,....In
a small room. The 15" would overpower a small room, I
think.

What's your thought on this case?
