Title: Gauges question for Steve
Post by deucekazoo on 09/17/12 at 17:53:17

Steve,
I love that the new amps get quages and I have always like the look of them. Would it be possible to add these to the older amps. Maybe do a DYI where you supply them and show how to hook them up for each amp. This way it would be up to the person to design how to house them, external box maybe. Also is there a way to hook these up so they are not in the signal path, or are they in the signal path? I think it would be great to get these hooked up on the older amps.
Thanks,
John

The gauges I used are current meters that are simply hooked up between the cathode of the output tube and whatever it happened to be connected to.  That puts it directly in the signal path, but with fairly low voltage <30 VDC if a bias resistor is used and 0 volts if used in a fixed bias amp because the meter is hooked directly between the cathode and ground.  The movement inside the meter and it's coil can effect the sound of the amp.
