Title: 2nd Birthday of amp
Post by davewhit58 on 12/06/11 at 19:30:35

Well its coming up to 2 years old and my amp still sings the rectifier was changed for Mullard NOS GZ32 stright away and various other NOS valves replaced the others till I found  I liked GenalexGold Lion 6922/e88cc and EL84 best

The amp has been used for 5 to 7 hours each day ......over 4,000 hours total... mixture of radio and cd player no longer use  a turntable due to sight problems

I have used amps over the years from £500 to £8,000 valve and solid state but this sounds better IMO to all others, its not the quietest of amps and having sensertive speakers 96db 2.83 volts @ 1 meter the noise can be heard from speakers with no music playing but I listen from 16 feet away no problems . Doubt I will ever buy another amp.

System

Speakers Tannoy 15inch Glenair CD Player Chord One Tuner Magnum Dynalab 90T FM  all wired up with copper wire  8-)

Hi Dave, I have tried various tubes including what I have running at this time, the nos Mullard gz32 and a pair of 6P15P-EV's, those tubes are only a couple of weeks old but the improvement never really jumped out at me tbh,
you say you like the el84 best, I use eh 84's but can't make my mind up yet which I prefer, I have (fingers crossed) and iec socket to fit yet as well as the cce mod.

No Dave, It started life as a "B" and was updated to a "C" and the mains cable comes strait out of the amp to the plug, I use some Russ Andrews mains leads and I will try one of those,
Hello from the UK by the way,

Ok Dave, i'll give it some thought, i'm on the wirral near Chester, my amp has started to sound really good now but i've read so many conflicting stories regarding tube run in time I'm not sure.
