Title: 6n14p Post by nico on 09/27/11 at 17:03:36 Anyone tried this as a output-tube in a zen-C ? It seems to be the same tube [?] as the well known 6n15p-ev which is standard in this amp. Anyone? |
Title: Re: 6n14p Post by Rivieraranch on 09/29/11 at 23:50:30 It is NOT the same tube. The 6P14P-EV is an EL84 equivalent with a little more power. The amp you have however, is designed for the 6P15P-EV or SV83. You can try some of the 6P14P-EV in your amp and see if you like them better. This tube does not benefit from the Hazen Grid Modification that makes the 6P15P-EV's sing. |
Title: Re: 6n14p Post by nico on 09/30/11 at 06:14:34 Thanks, I was offered these tubes as a direct replacement so I'm glad I asked.... Proffessional tube-stores obviously like to sell tubes, no matter if the customer askes for a specific tube [the 6p15p-ev]. THANKS AGAIN. Nico |
Title: Re: 6n14p Post by dank on 10/01/11 at 15:46:36 I have a Zkit-1 and a second similar home-brew amp (that will be at Decfest this year) that loves the 6p15p and hates the 6p14p. The difference is night and day. Lots more power from the 6p15p and a much nicer sound. Then, a while back, I worked on a Taboo, and that amp was just the opposite...got more power and sounded better with the 6p14p. So, pick the one you like best and go with it. Dan |
Title: Re: 6n14p Post by nico on 10/01/11 at 17:12:15 Thanks Dan. They cost about nothing here so I'll give it a try; just don't want to use tubes that will harm the amp. Thanks for your answer, Nico |
