Title: For Sale:NOS 5Y3GT pairs
Post by tgarden on 09/18/11 at 01:08:24

For Sale:  NOS RCA 5Y3GT tubes in original boxes, silver lettered bases, matching date codes. I belive these are l954 tubes. I'll look at the RCA date code list later.  Both tubes test at 100/100.  $35.00 for the pair

I also have a nice pair of NOS yellow lettered Military Tung-Sol 5Y3GT's in white boxes.  Matching dated codes, these are the Jan-CTL-5Y3GT T/G, VT-197A variant.  They test at: Tube A, FWD:49 volt peak;  Tube B, FWD: 48 volt peak.  And.. Tube A. REV 399 volt peak;  Tube B, REV 399 volt peak.  One has a very slight crack in the base, and the price reflects that.  $50 for the pair.

Pins on all four tubes are clean and shiny.  If any tubes arrive non-working, I will refund your money.

I'll prepay the shipping (First Class Mail) and will ship in a sturdy new box.  Feel free to check out my feedback on Audiogon under Tgarden, and terrapin_gardens on ebay.

Now that I've sold my Torii Mark II (Mark III on the way), I don't need these nice 5Y3GT matched pairs I've been hanging onto for several years.  I'm just keeping some single tubes for my ZP3.

Please contact me at my personal email, mike@terrapin-gardens.com .

Thanks for looking!

Tgarden, may drop you a line, but I thought I would ask here: have you considered keeping them to try in the Mk III? Because that is exactly where I would think of trying them myself.

Pale Rider,  I'm still keeping one matched pair of Military Tung Sol's  "just in case".  But after using RCA 5Y3GT's for over a year in my Torii II, I switched to RCA 5U4G's, and like the bigger sound I got.
For the last few years I've been using Siemens EL34's, RCA OA3's, and 1965 USN Amperex 7308's.  This combination has worked well with with my Legacy Audio Signature III speakers.

I have a local friend who has a Mark II/ Spendor combination, and he just did a 5Y3GT versus 5U4G comparison (RCA's) and preferred the 5U4G's with his speakers and digital source.

I'm using a modded Rega 25 and highly modded Philips AH673 tuner for sources.  In the end, I have to admit the Mark II sounds good with both the 5Y3GT's and 5U4G's.  I don't know what's going to happen with my incoming Mark III, but don't expect a drastic difference.  If it sounds  noticably better than the Mark II I just sold, I will not be unhappy.

I'm lowering the price of both sets of 5Y3GT's in this ad by $5.00 per pair.

Mike

Hey Mike, thanks for that extra info. Makes sense. I like my RCA 5U4G NOS rectifiers very much as well, but I may still think about these.

I will also trade these two NOS 5Y3GT pairs for one matched pair of US made 5U4G's.

Thanks for looking!

RCA 5Y3GT's have been sold. I still have the nice Tung-Sol pair.
