Title: So I don't want to smoke another amp...
Post by HellionDarklord on 08/08/11 at 13:38:40

Is this correct wiring? I want the DVC sub to be reverse polarity from the mains and I want a second opinion.
EDIT::  The mains are 8 ohm, and the sub is 2ohm. I think I like the sound of a 10 ohm load for the amp I have. Wiring it this way would make a 10 ohm load right?

Okay, I like my new "junk" setup. Two Sherwood SP- 163S-R rear channel speakers with the backs removed to make nice OBs and an unknown DVC 2 ohm driver mounted into an oversize bass reflex enclosure that was made for a 15.

I basically have an 8 inch driver "velocity coupled" with a bass reflex enclosure and it is not loud because the amp is too weak, but it sounds real real good. No crossovers, nothing but a 5 watt amp and I'm amazed by the clarity and warmth these drivers deliver with this setup. Piano music sounds better than I ever remembered hearing, and there is plenty of bass.

One question though, how could I make the sub a little louder without losing the amazing "You can't tell where I am in the room" act the sub is doing? I've added 5 ohm resistors in front of the mains, but that kills the awesome sound stage.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the do it yourself section?

Ditto. And while I know Steve specifically welcomes all audio topics, maybe more resources could be found here.
