Title: changing a 5Y3GT tube for 5U4GT
Post by nico on 08/06/11 at 08:05:53

Not familiar with tubes yet.... :-[
My Zen came with the 5Y3GT rectifier tube, and some spare tubes including a 5UGT. Info on the net says they are the same, but pin-layout is different.
When interchanging these tubes, do I need to alter wire- hookup on the connector?
Thanks,
Nico

I think you are referring to a 5U4G or 5U4GB. Either one of these will interchange as a drop in substitute for the 5Y3.

Forgot to say Thanks! ;)
By now the riddle of why the 5U4G did not fit at first, is solved. [wrong transformer mounting].
I read alot about the MULLARD GZ 32 , anyone here who can tell the difference between my Sovtek5U4G and the Mullard?
Does changing the rectifier really make such a difference in sound?
Any comments are appreciated.
Nico
