Title: Listening Room Shots
Post by Jon on 10/09/10 at 20:52:14

Hey everyone,

Here are some pictures of my listen room and system; a combination of HiFi audio and TV entertainment.

HiFi equipment:

Decware SE84ZS
Rega p3-24 w/Elys 2 Cartridge
Musical Surroundings Phonomena Phono Stage
Decware Zbox
H/K HD7600 CDP
Audio Nirvana Super 12" Cast Frame's
BPT Power Center
Signal Cable Power Cords and Interconnect
Anti Cable Speaker Cables

The audio stand was inspired by Steve's turntable stand.
The phono stage and CDP will at some point be replaced with Decware equipment (once the bank account allows me to)!

Jon

Jon,

Looks very nice. I have to ask, what kind of wood is on your speakers? Very unusual figure!

Hi ZYGI,

The veneer is Mahogany Drape from South America.

Here's a link from where I got it: http://www.certainlywood.com/woodmenulist.cfm?c=138

I'm really happy with how the veneer came out!

Hi Jon,
you finally posted the pics.
Nice setup you've got there :)
So, tell me, how are those AN super 12s sounding in the 2.6 enclosures?

Hey Nick,

The super 12s are sounding pretty darn good in my opinion.  They are a little light in the lowest bass octaves.  However, I have already noticed a difference from day one with the bass extension.  I currently have 20-30 hours on them.  The mid range is absolutely amazing!  I have not really noticed any high frequency harshness.  I actually find these less harsh in the higher frequencies than my previous pair of speakers (mirage frx-5's).  I'm also still playing around with placement to dial in the soundstage.

I'm glad you found the bass to your liking.
I'm sure the acoustic foam behind the speakers plays a role in it.
wait until you get 200 hours on them, they'll be giving out more bass than you thought possible from a full range driver, at least that's my experience even in a live room like mine.
Regards
Nick

Jon,

Just and idea about your speakers.   If you feelthe  bass is compromised, you could try either a piece of cork or some light felt instead of the foam behind the driver.    Stick them on with double faced tape.   If you don't like it -- easy to remove.

I've had good luck with either the sheet cork or felt.   You get some taming of the resonances, but not too much like foam sometimes provides.

This is the first time I've stumbled into this thread - that gear stand is awesome, and the turntable is a work of art!

I like your system. I have been considering the audio nirvana speakers as a project I have 3 questions  Which magnets. What speakers did you have before.  Describe the sound.   Thanks,  Darrell

Jon,

I an dazzled by the burl turntable.  How did you come across it?

I copied down the maker's info and his store in New Orleans.

It is such a leap from my habit of reading reviews and shopping audiogon.

How is the audio quality?

Raymundo
