Title: Rectifier valves
Post by bonneville on 08/18/10 at 19:11:38

Hi I am new here and live in  the UK.I had a grey Zen E84CW which  I sold in a moment of madness .The good news is I have been able to buy it back and am enjoying it once more through my Lowthers.
The rectifier is a 5U4G and I noticed the mains tx gets hotter than I previously remember .I replaced it with a 5Y3 and this makes it run cooler.
My question is will using the 5U4G cause any damage or am I being a bit paranoid .

Bonneville.

As far as I can tell, and as far as I can remember, should be fine to use.

I just replaced a 5U4 with the 5Y3 and all the issues I had with the amp are gone.  It faded, buzzed, sounded ragged for no reason then cleared up.  The 5U4, from my prespective just does not work as well as the 5Y3.....that is the tube it came with.
