Title: Basic question re: subwoofers
Post by Evo on 05/02/10 at 12:41:34

I'm toying with the idea of supplementing my stereo speakers with a sub. I have always been more interested in stereo than surround sound so don't know much about multi-channel set-ups. My amplifier (zkit1) and DAC (USB monica) only have one right and one left output, which feed each of my current stereo speakers. How do I get a signal for a subwoofer?
Thanks,
Matt

Okay, get your salt shaker handy as I'm no expert on subs.

But I know you can buy them with several input options. The high-level or speaker cable input level is purported to give the most of the amplifier's character to the sound.

You will need a sub amp. Then you can take the signal from the amp output or a low level.

shreekant :)

Yes. Connect from speaker outputs to sub-inputs (on the sub amp)
(You can also go line-level, if you've got sub out on your preamp)
But having tried both, I much prefer a direct connection to the speaker terminals.
