Title: EL83 tube Post by jags79 on 03/17/10 at 03:14:59 Does anyone know if you can put an El83 tube into a Select? I got some from a guy in Wahlburg, Texas who says it's the same as an SV83. They are Amperex and were made in France. THANKS. |
Title: Re: EL83 tube Post by Crazy Bill the Eel Killer on 03/18/10 at 14:48:18 Hello Jags, The SV83 and EL84 types specify a max plate dissipation of 12 watts, and Steve biases the Select hot, i.e., close to the max because it sounds best there. The EL83 specifies a max plate dissipation of 9 watts, which the Select exceeds. I don't know enough to say w/ certainty, but I would think if they worked at all without failing at turn-on, they certainly would not last long. I wouldn't do it. Hopefully someone who does kbnow a lot about if you can exceed that rating will chime in. Until then, don''t put them in your Select. Cheers, Crazy Bill |
