Title: rectifier bad? Post by Jeff on 03/08/10 at 15:08:37 the rectifier tube in my taboo is glowing purple at initial turn on. the color clears out after a minute or so. i believe it's a mullard army tube. been fine for about a year, just started doing this. sounds normal at low volumes. should i replace this tube. |
Title: Re: rectifier bad? Post by Rivieraranch on 03/08/10 at 22:17:13 There are a lot of threads about the purple color. It may have to do with extra electrons bombarding against the glass. I have some power tubes that do this. I don't know if it is the same with rectifiers. A good rectifier can last nearly the life of the equipment. Maybe you can get it tested to make sure that it is not going bad on you. |
Title: Re: rectifier bad? Post by Jeff on 03/22/10 at 20:42:03 well turns out the tube was bad. the gf left the house and i got a chance to play the stereo with some real volume...tons of distortion. i put a philco 5y3 in that i had laying around and everything went back to sounding awzm. |
