Title: Minitorii and KT66 output tubes.....
Post by ddemy on 02/23/10 at 04:40:27

Are the KT66 output tubes compatible for use on the MiniTorii(?), since they are essentially in the same family as the 6L6 output tubes…  My understanding is that KT66's draw more heater current, so would this present additional stress or operational issues for the amplifier??....and  What about physical compatibility?? The diameter of the KT66 tube base would also be larger than the stock 6V6 or 6L6 base so is there sufficient clearance for a KT66 to properly fit flush into the (6V6) tube socket ?  It appears that the tube socket mounting screws may interfere with proper mounting of the KT66 tube base to be completely flush into the 6V6 tube socket ? ….Appreciate any info. on this….thanks……. ddemy

If I were in your position, I would exhaust all the possibilities within the 6v6GT and 6L6GC alternatives before stepping into something so arcane.

Actually plan to continue using factory supplied 6v6 output tube for many years.  A longtime friend offered to lend a matched pair of KT66's ( a close cousin to the 6L6’s) should I decide to try some tube rolling with the output tubes.  That’s why I was asking the question about output tube compatibility with the MiniT.
