Title: Internal chamber question
Post by dreston on 02/08/09 at 15:45:58

Well, in the past 2 years I've built 5 total deathboxes with my buddy, 2 DB10's and 3 DB12's.  We'd like to build the Wicked One next, and in planning for this I'm hoping for some help on the internal size/ sealed volume area.  The speakers I'll be using are the 12" SWR-1222D Alpine's.

This is the spec sheet for it, but I'm not sure which number to use, I was planning on the magnet in the sealed volume area, but really doesn't matter.

Thanks for the help

I'm surprised, normally I see responses here daily, was their something about the question that was unclear?  I'm just trying to determine which volume is appropriate to use for the WO sealed volume area, with regard to these speakers.

Hey, Ive made a spreadsheet that calculates the 4th order bandpass volumes for the sealed and vented chambers.  I got the formulas from a design website, you can actually just enter the Theile Small parameters on the website calc inputs and it will spit out volumes.  I sized my chamber volumes (for a custom scaled down WO) using these required volumes, within 10% or so, with the help of AutoCad.   I'm very pleased with the results.

Check out this site for automatic calculations:

or this one just has the design formulas if you're comfortable doing the math:

Been a while but I'm revisiting this for the weekend and I'm hoping some of you experts can chime in.  I'm planning on using the subs that HT-EXT recommended for the WO (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-460) - Dayton 10" Reference HF's,  I'll be building the box during the next few days hopefully (the major pieces I already have cut) and I need to know if the WO with these subs will work as the plans sit or if I need additional bracing in the sealed area to maximize sub efficiency.  I think HT-EXT has used these before and hopefully he can let me know if I need to adjust anything on Decware's original plans to make this boom.

Thanks!

What up dreston?

Sorry so late with a reply. My standard is if the sealed section is 1 ft3 the port side should be around 3/4 ft3. This set up or ratio gives me the option to try other speakers. Some might not agree but so be it. If you stick to that ratio that alpine will work but the HO or HF will work better. Just my 2 cents hope it helps...
