Title: Scaling dowwwwwn the HWK
Post by Valiant on 03/27/08 at 13:44:46

Hmm, scaling down the House Wrecker eh.
Well, having a couple of 2.25", 1/2 watt drivers, some 3mm MDF
a bit of slack, and I'm up for a challenge (of sorts).  :D

She may be no Bendi, but then again, she is about 100 years old.

I always specify MONSTER cable for my projects  8-) and elastic bands.

So what does the miniature house wrecker sound like?

Is this a joke?

The HWK 15 is designed to reflex the deep bass. Higher sounds get cut off. You won't get any nice treble from this and you can forget the bases with 2.25" drivers.
What on earth did you do this for? You could have made a front firing Speaker with that wood and these Speakers.

I wouldn't call it a joke exactly. Most of the guys on this forum have been around a long while and novelty plays as much of a role in enjoyment as anything else. Maybe it's a hobby, maybe it was curiosity.

Lay off the literal juice a little though. Not everything is done for scientific effect.

Hiya Azul, the little housewrecker = fun to do. Lots of folk play with model (I daren't say 'toy') trains, or dolls. In my case, I guess you could call it a 'toy' speaker and as musgofasa says, novelty plays as much of a role in enjoyment as anything else.

The LH also played an important role in the visualisation of the concept that I developed for my 'Modded HWK' coffee table project, which I must add, is probably the most fun bit of gear I have built. Totally awesome bass.

When Steve quoted, in his preamble article obout the Imperial loudspeaker, that during one listening session, 'We saw a mouse stagger out of a crack in the concrete floor and die.' (must read!) I never knew that being a pest controller could be so much fun. ;D

Welcome to the forum.

Cheers

Gary

Oh and Max, how do they not sound is more to the point, do not build it if you want HT satisfaction, but those little speakers do pump the box.

LOL

I forgot about the "mouse" thing.

Actually, now that you mention it, I am thinking of using some 2" computer speakers I have to do a mock up of a project. In fact I have already used them for another one and I was glad I did becuase it proved that the full scale idea was a bad one. It's always fun to model things like this.

I would be interested to put that little HWK up with my computer speakers and see what is sounds like. The sub I have with my computer speakers is only a 4" driver now and it is surprisingly effective. In fact, I used it for my HT for quite a while! lol

Guy's I'm back. Been a bit of a recess there for a while. But how could I forget the gang that put the fun into making big music.
Wassup? Has the world ran out of ply and chip board, or have people been sucked in to believing MP3's and similar are 'THE STANDARD' in audio nirvana, and if you can't plug it into your ear, it's old hat.
Currently planning a new high power amp, and if I can, I may just build a new set of Imperials to boot, though this time I'll use premium gear.
I recently went to an ACDC concert, actually two. One was about 80 yards from the stage, the other was about 10 yards, and adjacent to one of the huge speaker banks. My ears were hissing for days after the 10 yarder. But the whole time I was thinking, it would have been so much better if the band had used several Imperials instead for delivery. I've played Hells Bells on my Imperials in my backyard and it left the concert version wanting.
Ah well.

I second that on the imperials.

What formula or thought did you come up with to be
able to scale down the HWK to where you have it?

It's cute!

I'd like to scale down one myself, but for a more usable
purpose though, if help can be shared for such [smiley=10.gif]
