Every time I change the rectifier tube on my SE84BW, I find myself rolling the input tube as well. My favorite combination is JAN Phillips 5Y3WGTA + 6H23n-EV. I found the vintage Mazda 5Y3GB sounds good IF paired with the stock 6N1P. It's a close second but this rectifier makes my amp hum while cold.

What does everyone think of the Bendix 6106 in place of the 5Y3?

What tube, 5Y3, 5AR4 or 5U4 be least likely to provoke hum?

I believe if you want to use 5U4's or GZ32's, instead of 5Y3's, then the cathode resistor would be best reduced to 100 ohms.

That said, the Mullard GZ32 makes a big impression on me. I can't go back to other rectifiers after this one. Occasionally I try, but it never is as good.

My favorite previous to the Mullard GZ32 (nirvana, I think) was the 5V4 and 5U4 (in that order).
