Title: Re: se84b rectifier tube Post by JM on 02/02/08 at 10:57:37 Every time I change the rectifier tube on my SE84BW, I find myself rolling the input tube as well. My favorite combination is JAN Phillips 5Y3WGTA + 6H23n-EV. I found the vintage Mazda 5Y3GB sounds good IF paired with the stock 6N1P. It's a close second but this rectifier makes my amp hum while cold. |

GZ32 Mo' Power! (but have only tried the 5U4) JJ |
Title: Re: se84b rectifier tube Post by veryoldcat on 04/13/08 at 03:34:24 I believe if you want to use 5U4's or GZ32's, instead of 5Y3's, then the cathode resistor would be best reduced to 100 ohms. That said, the Mullard GZ32 makes a big impression on me. I can't go back to other rectifiers after this one. Occasionally I try, but it never is as good. My favorite previous to the Mullard GZ32 (nirvana, I think) was the 5V4 and 5U4 (in that order). Karl |
